Method

Making the Dough
  1. Mix the lukewarm milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter in a mixing bowl until well combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine all dry ingredients: flour, salt, instant dry yeast, and sugar. Stir them together and make a well in the center.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the well and mix until a uniform dough forms.
  4. Cover the bowl with cling film and let it rest and proof for one hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Preparing the Apple Filling
  1. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into small cubes.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the butter and cook the apple cubes with brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water until the apples are soft and the sauce thickens.
  3. Allow the apple filling to cool completely and reserve ¼ for topping after baking.
Assembling the Rolls
  1. On a floured countertop, roll the dough into a 40 x 30 cm rectangle.
  2. Spread the cooled apple filling evenly over the rolled-out dough.
  3. Carefully roll the dough from one end to another, ensuring it's tight.
  4. Cut the rolled dough into pieces about three fingers thick and place them on a baking pan lined with baking paper.
  5. Let them rise in a warm place for another 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Bake the rolls for 20 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients to enhance the dough's rise. Consider using pears or peaches in the filling for variation.
