Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
- Coat the chicken pieces on all sides with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
Baking
- Place the chicken skin side down on a rimmed baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes.
- Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees F.
- Baste the top of the chicken with BBQ sauce. Flip the chicken and baste the other side, then return to the oven for another 7 minutes.
- After 7 minutes, remove the chicken and baste the top side with more BBQ sauce. Bake for another 7 minutes. Repeat this basting process a total of three times.
- Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should be at least 165 degrees F, ideally between 180-190 degrees F for dark meat.
- If the chicken is not crispy enough, broil for an additional 3-5 minutes, monitoring closely.
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider marinating the chicken in BBQ sauce for a few hours. Basting is key to achieving a sticky glaze. Mix and match different chicken cuts like wings or breasts as desired.
