Ingredients
Method
Boil
- Start by adding 2 cups of water (or broth for more flavor) to a medium saucepan. Cover it and bring it to a rolling boil.
- Once boiling, gently stir in 1 cup of uncooked orzo.
Simmer
- Leave the saucepan uncovered to let the orzo simmer gently.
- Cook it for 8-12 minutes; if you enjoy a bit of bite, aim for closer to 8 minutes for al dente perfection.
- Check the pasta along the way, giving it a little stir to prevent sticking, and taste to ensure it reaches your desired doneness.
Serve
- Once your orzo has cooked to your liking, drain any excess water if necessary.
- It’s then ready to shine in your favorite recipe.
Notes
For an extra layer of flavor, try sautéing the uncooked orzo in the butter for a minute or two before adding the water or broth. Adding garlic powder or fresh herbs can elevate your dish further. Orzo pairs beautifully with grilled vegetables, seafood, or lean meats and is also great in salads. For storing, allow it to cool and then store in an airtight container for 3-5 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to three months.
