Main Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil This golden oil provides a rich base, enhancing the dish’s overall aroma.
  • 1 pound lean ground beef Lean and juicy, offering protein and savory depth.
  • 1/2 cup diced yellow onion Aromatic and sweet, infusing the dish with flavor.
  • 3 cloves garlic (grated or minced) Adds a fragrant kick that lifts the dish.
  • 1/2 cup flat-leaf parsley (chopped) Fresh and vibrant, adding a refreshing taste.
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning Fragrant mix of herbs for classic Italian essence.
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes Adds a hint of spice without overwhelming the dish.
  • 2 cups low sodium beef broth Builds the sauce's foundation while keeping it light.
  • 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes Adds sweetness and tanginess to the sauce.
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar Introduces subtle sweetness and tang.
  • 8 ounces pasta Absorbs the rich sauce and completes the meal.
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese Adds creaminess and depth.
  • 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt (optional) Offers a creamy finish for the sauce.

Method

Cooking Directions
  1. Heat the olive oil over medium-high heat in a deep large skillet, Dutch oven, or pot.
  2. Add the ground beef and crumble it as it cooks. When partially browned, add the diced onion and minced garlic, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  3. Continue cooking until the beef is fully browned and the onions are soft and translucent.
  4. Sprinkle in the Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes. Pour in the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and chopped parsley. Stir together.
  5. Add the pasta to the pot, ensuring it’s fully submerged in the sauce and give it a good stir.
  6. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low and allow to simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring often.
  7. If the sauce thickens too much, stir in additional beef broth as needed.
  8. Once the pasta is cooked, remove from heat. Stir in Parmesan cheese and Greek yogurt if using.
  9. Taste for seasoning and adjust with salt or pepper as necessary. Garnish with extra Parmesan and reserved parsley. Serve immediately.

Notes

Consider meat alternatives like ground turkey or chicken. Enhance flavors by adding a splash of red wine or fresh basil.
