Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1.5 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cup diced yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated or minced
  • 0.5 head green cabbage, chopped Core removed and chopped into bite-sized pieces (about 5 cups)
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup low sodium beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, add 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Once heated, crumble in the ground beef, seasoning it with salt and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through. Once done, transfer the beef to a plate and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Toss in the diced onion and grated garlic, sautéing them for about a minute until fragrant and translucent.
  3. Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Sprinkle in the smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, and additional salt and pepper. Stir well to combine and cook for about 7-10 minutes until tender.
  4. Return the browned ground beef to the skillet. Pour in the tomato sauce, beef broth, balsamic vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix thoroughly and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until heated through.
  5. Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning with extra salt if necessary.
  6. Serve your Ground Beef and Cabbage Skillet on a bed of rice or egg noodles.

Notes
