Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 4-6 pieces bone-in chicken thighs These cuts are ideal for boiling as they remain juicy and flavorful.
  • 3-4 cups water Essential for boiling and hydrating the chicken.
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt Adds flavor; kosher salt is preferred for its coarse texture.
  • 1 piece chicken bouillon cube Optional, can be used instead of kosher salt.
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped Optional, enhances the overall flavor of the chicken.

Method

Preparation
  1. Place the chicken thighs into a large saucepan. Fill the pan with water until it's three-quarters full, ensuring the chicken is submerged by at least two inches of water.
Seasoning
  1. Add the kosher salt or chicken bouillon cube to the water. If using, add the chopped onion for added flavor.
Simmering
  1. Cover the saucepan and bring the water to a gentle boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, checking that the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F.
Serving
  1. Remove the thighs from the water and serve immediately, seasoned with kosher salt and pepper, or sear them for a crispy texture.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider marinating the chicken with spices and herbs beforehand, or use broth instead of water. Maintain a gentle simmer for even cooking. Boiled chicken thighs can be served with rice, quinoa, salads, or in tacos.
