Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds beef tips, room temperature Choose well-marbled beef tips for tenderness.
  • 1 teaspoon pepper Freshly ground for enhanced flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Use to draw out the beef's natural flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil For searing the beef.
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced Adds sweetness to the gravy.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds aromatic flavor.
  • 2 cups no-sodium beef broth, divided Provides moisture and enhances flavor.
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce Adds a savory kick.
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons beef better than bouillon Or use 2 beef bouillon cubes.
  • 2.87 oz reduced sodium brown gravy packets Convenient for thickening the sauce.

Method

Preparation
  1. Season the beef tips generously with salt and pepper. Allow them to rest for about 10-15 minutes at room temperature.
Searing
  1. In a medium skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned beef tips, searing them on both sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Adding Aromatics
  1. Reduce the heat to low. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Stir occasionally for about five minutes until the onion becomes tender and translucent.
Preparing Broth Mixture
  1. Pour in 1 cup of the beef broth, along with Worcestershire sauce and beef bouillon. Stir to combine and cover the skillet loosely to allow steaming.
Simmering
  1. Let the beef tips simmer over low heat for 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally and adding more broth if needed for moisture.
Making Gravy
  1. Whisk together the gravy packets with the remaining 1 cup of beef broth in a separate bowl. Pour this mixture into the skillet with the beef, stirring to combine.
Thickening Gravy
  1. Increase the heat to medium and bring the gravy to a simmer. Cook for about 2 to 4 minutes to thicken and adjust seasoning as needed.
Serving
  1. Once thickened, remove from heat and serve the beef tips and gravy over rice, mashed potatoes, or egg noodles.

Notes

For added flavor, consider marinating the beef in Worcestershire sauce for a few hours. Brown in batches for best results and thicken the gravy as desired.
